Treating a column as survival times

If a column represents the time of a failure event, treating it as survival times can assist with analysis. Examples of “failure” data might include mortality, relapse, and component failure, or life events such as age at first marriage. After treating a column as survival times, you can then test hypotheses about the rate of failure, such as whether it is constant over time and whether it varies across groups.

To treat a column as survival times:

  1. In the Summary view, select a numeric or date column you wish to treat as survival times
  2. Choose Column > Treat Column Data As > Survival Times
