Creating an indicator variable

Indicator variables take a value of 0 or 1 according to a defined expression. To create a new indicator variable:

  1. In the Summary view, select a column to be evaluated
  2. Choose Column > New Indicator Variable…
  3. Use the controls to define as many conditions as you like. The indicator variable will be 1 when all of them are true.
  4. Press OK

By default, the indicator variable’s name reflects its underlying expression, but you can give it a new name of your choosing. (Note that changing the name will not affect the expression used to generate the indicator values.)
